First Annual Meeting of CARE Cluster of Excellence

Three days of inspiration and innovation in the heart of Saxony!

As our cluster speakers Professor Martin Claßen and Professor Viktor Mechtcherine highlighted, "Collaboration is not a distraction – it is a multiplier". This sentiment drove the event. Individual work gains additional impact through the collective context. Prof. Karin Lundgren (University of Chalmers, Gothenburg) delivered an inspiring keynote by sharing insights on sustainable structural engineering.

Equally inspiring were the presentations by our international guests: John Provis from the Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI), Professor Sisi Zlatanova (University of New South Wales, Australia), Professor Josephine Carstensen (Massachusetts Institute of Technology, MIT) and Professor Ulrich Schwaneberg, biotechnologist at RWTH Aachen University. Their emphasis on interdisciplinary collaboration and joint research was very well received by all those present.

The "CARE Research Ecosystem" prominently featured on day two, with detailed sessions across our five Research Areas. Prepared presentations by our Research Area Leaders and CARE members ignited discussions, helping to identify shared interests and challenges – crucial for our mission to transform the construction industry.

Growing Ideas. Building the Future.

Our Early Career Researchers took part in workshops designed to improve their presentation skills and guided tours of the laboratories of Intitute for Building Material, Institute for Textile Machinery, Institute of Concrete Structures at TU Dresden to get to know themselves and their fellow CARE colleagues. To support effective exchange, Professor Jörg Blankenbach, Professor Jakob Beetz, Dr. Gökhan Dede, and Dominik Junger led an insightful workshop on data management within CARE.

A particular highlight was the announcement of the Seed Fund awardees! Those present were incredibly impressed by the initiative and high-quality proposals, showcasing the potential for these new projects to advance our research. Congratulations again to all selected winners! We're excited to watch these ideas grow and flourish within CARE over the coming months.
