The CARE Cluster of Excellence is investigating how components can be manufactured more efficiently using 3D printing – with significantly less material whilst maintaining high load-bearing capacity. Material savings of up to 70 per cent are possible. But how does it work?

Prof. Christina Scheffler has made it her goal to develop new sustainable building materials including fibers and polymers, that are scalable and affordable for real world applications. As of 2024 she is professor for Polymers in Construction at TUD Dresden University of Technology, head of the Department Fiber Engineering at the Leibniz Institute of Polymer Research (ipf) and Principal Investigator at the Cluster of Excellence CARE.

On the Campus Melaten of RWTH Aachen University, the reference construction site opened its doors for the “Open Campus Week 2025”. Together, the new Excellence Cluster CARE and the seventh anniversary of the Chair of Individualised Production was celebrated, the demonstrations of our industry partners within the framework of TARGET‑X were presented, and insights into cutting‑edge research on 5G, robotics, and digital construction processes were given.
